Connie Lou Fabrics For YOU

Connie from ConnieLouFabrics is on to something big.  She designs adorable images, has them printed onto fabric, and then creates a Do It Yourself Kit for any level crafter to make dolls and puppets.  It's genius!  Her fabric images include rockin grasshoppers, snowbabies, robots, monsters, gingerbread people, and even storybook characters!  She sends out some fabric, and DIY instructions, and you create!  So, we talked to Connie about her new shop - she is also etsyBABY team member MiniMonster - and this is what she says:

Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?

My name is Connie. For the past couple years I have been on etsybaby as MiniMonster selling baby toys and clothing. Last year I opened a shop called ConnieLouFabrics that carried original design fabrics, now I've added original design DIY kits for children's toys, and dolls and combined my shops.

Is there anything unique about your product?

My new shop carries some original fabric but mainly I sell DIY kits. The toy kits are from my own drawings and are printed on polyester fleece. (a few are on cotton). My biggest seller since I opened this month have been my Robot Pocket Dolls. My favorite item is the Snowsuit Pocket Dolls, because they are cute toys and also great Christmas ornament or package toppers.

How do you make your shop and your product stand out from the others?

I've tried to make my panels easy to use and for every level sewer from beginner up. Last week a customer bought 4 kits she is going to use to help her daughter learn to sew and make Christmas presents at the same time. My kits give even veteran sewers the opportunity to handcraft something unique whether they consider themselves a crafter or not.

Which part of creation process that you like to do the most?

I love sketching and drawing the patterns, and since I don't consider my self a seamstress, I figure my customers and I will form a team...I'll be the artist, you do the sewing. My next addition will be fleece baby blankets and a matching doll for shower gifts. Stop by and take a look! I always appreciate feedback from my etsybaby team mates.

Chubby Baby - For a Delicious Life

This week we are catching up with Colleen, the designer and creator of Chubby Baby.  She has designed her own car seat cover that can fit on any brand of car seat!  She also makes some fabulously chic wipes cases and adorably funny bikini onesies!  So here is what we have learned about Chubby Baby:

Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?

I'm a Stay At home Mom of two babies, a 3 yr old girl and an 8 week old baby boy.

Colleen's first child spit up a lot, which of course caused many funky smells and annoying stains.  As many of us know, car seat covers are a pain to take off, wash, and figure out how to put back on with the straps in the right place.  After searching in many stores and finding only one removeable cover costing $199, her annoyance and frustration pushed her to create!  She worked to develop her own pattern for a removable car seat cover with vertical slits for the straps, reducing the confusion and struggle of reattaching the straps.

Is there anything unique about your product?

I like to think my car seat covers are unique because i use verticle slits in the seat cover instead of horiztonal, for the seat belts to be threaded through. You don't have to take apart the whole car seat to put it on and off, while most designs are like that. I wanted something that was functional and not time consuming, I just had so much to do now that I was a new mom, and taking apart a car seat was the last thing i wanted to do. So it just goes right over the original car seat cover and you pull the straps through, that's it!

What is your favorite item in your shop?

My Favorite item in my shop is the Groovy Guitar Infant Car Seat Cover - I love it because you can use it for a boy or a girl. It's a fun print and it gets a tons of attention. It's my Best Seller!

How do you make your shop and your product stand out from the others?

For me I try to take the best pictures possible, it's what catches people eye. I try to bring a smile to your face, I want the buyer to envision their little special baby in this design and feel uplifted and feel the need to buy right away. I want the picture to put a smile on their face, in their hearts and in their minds when they are envisioning their little Chubby Baby all cozied up in the minky slipcover that they would sit in and then having the mommy's look and style for the canopy to express themselves and have fun with.

Anything else you would like to share?

I'd also like to add that if it wasn't for my littler sister Meagan, who at this time has no interest in sewing, has been one of my biggest supporters by helping out watching my kidos, listening to my endless chatter on fabrics, and just being there for me when ever i needed it. Like driving down to the garment district to help buy fabrics - probably not how she'd like to spend her free time, but she comes with me anyway. I'll always love her for all those things because without her i could never do as much as i do!

Because Life is Wonderfully Messy

Our Little Messes, because life is wonderfully messy

We chatted with Amy from Our Little Messes about the unique handmade baby gifts that she and her mother create and sell, including cotton baby bibs, organic burp cloths, designer crayon art cases, and other trendy products for kids.  Here's what she had to say:

Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?

We are a mother/daughter team whose goal is to create stylish, giftable items for babies and kids. Diane is a mother of three, a former teacher, and grandmother to five energetic kids. She lives in Hendersonville, Tennessee and brings over 40 years of sewing experience to our team. Amy, who lives in Austin, is also a mother of three and is a former technology consultant. Between the two of us, we have dabbled in numerous crafts such as scrapbooking, cross stitch, needlepoint, quilting, crochet, knitting, painting, and even making porcelain dolls. We have always come back to sewing as our true love. We share both a love for sewing as well as a healthy addiction to fabric. If we are not at our sewing machines, we are in the fabric stores searching out the newest, cutest, most unique fabrics for our products.

Is there anything unique about your product?

We offer a line of contoured burp cloths that uses super soft organic cotton velour. When customers feel the organic velour they are amazed at the softness. It is really the most plush cotton fabric you can find. We also offer monogramming on both our bibs and Crayon Artist Cases. Our monograms are created by embroidering an initial on top of a piece of colored velour that has been appliqued to the product. This is a multi-step process that produces a unique style of personalization.

What is your best seller?

Currently, our best seller is our Crayon Artist Cases. We have had so many wonderful comments from customers about this product and hope that they continue to sell well over the holiday season. We are currently in the process of producing many more of these cases for the holiday season so there will be a large variety of prints to choose from in our store.

How do you make your shop and your product stand out from the others?

We try to use a lot of bright, vibrant, unique fabrics for our products and take the very best photos that we can. We also make sure to nicely package all of our items so that they can be easily given as gifts. All of our non-monogrammed items are in stock and ship out immediately so there is no wait time. This is a great selling point for us as most people who are buying items as gifts don't want to wait weeks for them to ship.

"We make gift giving easy!"
