How do I give them a proper washing?
Hard surfaced toys:
In a clean bucket; put 3/4 cup of bleach to ONE gallon of water and soak for at least FIVE minutes and then give them a good hand washing or rinse and then air dry them.
An easy solution is to put the toys in the top rack of your dishwasher.
Toys with motors:
Using the same solution above; wash the toys by hand and then rinse them by hand with water only.
Stuffed Animals:
Place the stuffed animal into a sealed plastic Ziploc bag and then place the bag into the freezer for at least TWO hours and then throw the stuffed animal into the washing machine.
Toss the stuffed animal into the washing machine as is or place the stuffed animal in a pillow case, that has been tied at the top, and then throw it into the washing machine.
Air dry the stuffed animal or throw it into the dryer on a gentle cycle.

Thanks for all the great cleaning tips! My daughter is 14 now, so we really don't have too many toys around, but she still has a lot of stuffed animals. Wait 'till she comes home from school today to find them all in the freezer! She already thinks I'm a crazy germaphobe!
