Our campaign to help save handmade baby & kids products: The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act was passed in August, 2008 to prevent the use of lead in products intended for children 12 years and younger. Initially we recognize that this is a good thing, however, this act also mandates third-party testing and certification of all products for children under 12 years old. The certification and labeling of each product is going to be quite costly, especially for those shops who sell multiple products as they will need to test and certify each product they sell. For small businesses, like the members of EtsyBABY and EtsyKIDS, this could be trouble! It's a costly expenditure, $300 - $4000, and will most likely cause a lot of shops who create HANDMADE products to close.
Teams EtsyBABY and EtsyKIDS are asking for your help too! Starting Friday, January 9th, we are launching a HUGE promotion to help show our support for HANDMADE baby and kids products. We have over 100 participating shops who are offering discounts, free shipping, free gifts ... to our customers and supporters. Please visit the ShopEtsyBABY website for a list of participating shops and details. Help us SAVE HANDMADE!
Thank you,
EtsyBABY & EtsyKIDS Teams

I have just found out about your team and will now be sure to check out the website. Beary Hugs, Catherine and the Bumpkin Bears
Is there a way to get more word out that this is a cause for concern; Many home school groups are sending messages telling people, "this is nothing to be worry about" and "not a big deal just hysteria" and even referencing the snope's article that declares concerns about CPSIA as "hysteria" and "false and misleading".
The concern is people are really downplaying and ignoring businesses such as Etsy.
